Holiday season is a time of celebration, which means you can expect lots of sugary treats, wine and desserts. No matter what you may be celebrating at this time of the year, be it a traditional Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Festivus or Yule, the following tips will help ensure your dental hygiene stays in good shape throughout the season.

Have a Routine

Just because it is the holiday season doesn’t mean you can skip your normal dental hygiene routine. If you don’t have a routine, you might want to start brushing, flossing and mouth-washing everyday coupled with tongue cleaning and drinking plenty of water.

Stay Away From Candy Canes

Besides all the sugar that they contain, candy canes can be quite damaging to the teeth if bitten wrongly. So if you really feel like having one, let it dissolve first to avoid any chipping or cracking. Also, make sure to thoroughly brush your teeth after enjoying any type of candy.

Avoid Sodas

During the holiday season you may find your fridge packed with sodas and all sorts of fizzy drinks. However for the sake of your teeth’s health, limit its consumption. You could substitute soda with fizzy, bubbly water, or use a straw to keep most of the acid off your teeth when having a soft drink.

Have More Veggies

Instead of munching on Christmas cookies and cakes, stuff your plate with leafy greens, carrots and broccoli since they are loaded with vitamin A that helps strengthen your enamel.

Do Not Use Your Teeth as a Bottle Opener

The holiday season may require you to open loads of packages, apply tape and lots of others things you might be tempted to cut or open with the help of your teeth. Avoid doing anything of the like as it can loosen the teeth or cause it to chip or break.

These are some tips to keep your teeth in good shape during the holiday season.
